BURLINGTON - The famed Connecticut pizza scene is ready to make its mark in Burlington after Frank Pepe Pizzeria Napoletana announced it will celebrate its grant opening by welcoming guests to its second Massachusetts location in the Uno’s space at Burlington Mall.

The Planning Board unanimously approved the New Haven, Connecticut-based pizza eatery’s request to locate in the space in April 2018. Uno’s closed its doors in January 2018, opening up the opportunity for Frank Pepe’s to move in.

Frank Pepe’s is a well-established and recognized pizzeria restaurant, specializing in the thin crust style, originated in Connecticut, with its first Massachusetts location recently opening in Chestnut Hill. The Burlington Mall location will be their second in Massachusetts. The Mall location will consist of a full-service restaurant with 98 seats in the 3,962-square-foot former Uno’s space. No outdoor seating is a part of the plan, and food service will be provided to patrons during both lunch and dinner hours, just like Uno’s.

Frank Pepe’s will use roughly half the seating Uno’s did, with 98 compared to 200, so it will technically be a partial occupation of the Uno’s space as a new divider wall is expected to be installed to round out the space for Frank Pepe’s. No negative traffic impacts are expected from the new business.

The site plan resulted in no expansion of the site’s floor area. Also, there is no delivery service, but takeout is a part of the service provided.

In recent years, Frank Pepe’s has been on the move, bringing its acclaimed pizza to nine locations across Connecticut, New York, Rhode Island, and Massachusetts.

The children and grandchildren of Frank Pepe will be joined by the Burlington community and town officials to celebrate the arrival of the restaurant in the Burlington Mall on Monday, June 10.

The celebration will kick-off with an official ribbon cutting ceremony at 10:30 a.m. Doors will open to the public at 11 a.m., which is when guests will have the chance to order delicious Pepe’s pizzas such as the White Clam Pizza, a signature combination of fresh clams, grated cheese, olive oil, fresh garlic and oregano, and the Original Tomato Pie, both originally crafted by Frank Pepe himself.
