Bex O’Connor - RISE Preschool volunteer, dedicated student and caring to all

Bex O’Connor is an outgoing, kind and committed senior at Reading Memorial High School and a part of the class of 2020. She is known by her teachers as dedicated to her studies, as well as kind to her peers. She credits some of her favorite times at Reading Memorial High School as being spent creating lifetime friendships, as well as assisting with the attached preschool program.

She thanks the school for giving her the opportunity to meet such great people who’ve become her best friends, and teachers who’ve become her biggest inspirations.

When reflecting on her favorite moments spent at the highs school, Bex shares that she also remembers her time spent volunteering at the RISE Preschool as entertaining and always exciting.

She has taken multiple demanding honors classes during her time at RMHS, and with that has always been known as a superlative student. Along with this, her course load this year is nothing less than rigorous. This year she was enrolled in Story Writing, Poetry, RISE, Child Development, Financial Algebra, Library Assistant, and Environmental Science. She’s grateful for the teachers and classes that have made her understanding of her future career path clear and for the teachers who've always supported her.

Her favorite classes at RMHS were Child Development and RISE, which have helped form her love for teaching greatly. She’s insanely grateful for the atmosphere created by the students and teachers and is forever thankful for the experience to help teach the preschoolers.

In her free time, Bex enjoys spending quality time with her friends and family. She could also be seen tutoring at risk children, continuing to better our community. Some of her favorites include Lobster Rolls, ice cream, and the restaurant Chick-fil-A. She also loves the movie The Greatest Showman, and the actor Tom Holland.

A quote that she feels has inspired and shaped her into the person she is today is a famous quote by Dr. Seuss, “You’re off to great places! Today is your day! Your mountain is waiting. So… get on your way!” This quote helps show Bexs love to learn and her continuation to grow.

Bex looks forward to continuing her education at Lynn University. At this college, Bex plans to pursue her love of childhood education with a field of interest in becoming a preschool teacher. She shares that this decision was an easy choice as it was heavily influenced by her time spent with the RISE students and teachers. She shares that this experience helped make the decision clear and her plans to pursue the major as well.

When reflecting on her time at RMHS, Bex finds this quote most adequate to symbolize and summarize her experience. This quote reads:

“Never forget yesterday, but always live for today, because you never know what tomorrow can bring, or what it can take away. In a blink of an eye, everything can change. So forgive often and love with all your heart. You may never know when you may have that chance again.” - Unknown

To Bex, many teachers have helped make her learning experience especially memorable by their ability to brighten the class atmosphere. The teachers that she would like to mention are as follows:

“Miss.T for believing in me, listening to me, caring, and helping me. Mrs.Clawson for believing in me, listening to me, caring, and helping me. The RISE Staff for being mentors, caring, helpful, and treating me like one of the staff. The Extended Day Staff for treating me like a teacher, being caring, helpful mentors, and believing in me,” Bex shares.

Additionally, Bex would like to recognize her close friends who’ve always been there for her. Two of her friends that stand out specifically are Kayleigh Ebert and Catherine Souza, who’ve always been kind and funny friends.

And finally she would like to highlight and thank her mother Lisa, her father David, and her older sister Allison (21) for supporting and loving her in everything she does. She resides in Reading with her family.
