Meeting held on new use for Daniels House opposite library

Well over 150 residents jammed the Reading Library’s Community Room January 30th to hear information and to question proponents of the Process

Recovery Center, an alcohol and drug rehabilitation medical facility seeking to lease the former Daniels House nursing home located across from the library. Following a summary and description of the facility the crowd peppered the facility administration, lawyers and owner of the property for nearly two hours until the 9 p.m. closing of the library brought the meeting to an end. Sentiments expressed ran the gamut from wanting the building to remain a nursing home or condo conversion to residents supporting the proposal as a piece in the puzzle to help victims of alcohol and drugs shed their dependency. Most residents seemed to leave the meeting less apprehensive about the medically regulated facility than another option (not favored by the property owner) for an basically unregulated Sober Home. No decision was reached pending additional submissions and action by the Town of Reading. (Al Sylvia photo)
