Lifelong Wakefield resident to run in New York Marathon for Team MR8

On Monday night Marc Young held a fundrasier for Team MR8 at Fuddruckers in Reading. Marc is running the New York Marathon later this year for Team MR8. Team MR8 raises money for the Martin Richard Foundation.

WAKEFIELD – Marc Young, a lifelong resident of Wakefield, was accepted as a part of Team MR8 to run the New York City Marathon on Nov. 4th. Team MR8 raises money for the Martin Richard Foundation. Marc has a goal of $3,500.

Martin Richard was the youngest victim, at only 8 years old, of the Boston Marathon Bombings in 2013. The Martin Richard Foundation provides opportunities for young people to learn, grow and lead through volunteerism and community engagement and looks to advance sportsmanship, inclusion, kindness and peace.

Being accepted as a member of Team MR8 is a huge honor for Marc as he gazes at his own 8 and 10 year old children and tries not to imagine what little Martin's family has had to endure. Marc’s family has the same values as the Foundation and hopes to instill these values in their children so that future generations may choose kindness too!

On Monday, Marc held his first fundraiser at Fuddruckers in Reading and sincerely thanks all who came out to enjoy dinner and raffles for such a great cause.

He plans to have a tent at the Festival by the Lake in Wakefield on June 9th with even more exciting raffles. There will also be games for the kiddos to spread the message of Peace.

Donations can be made online at or Checks payable to "Martin Richard Foundation" can be mailed to Marc Young, 13A Hart Street, Wakefield, MA 01880.
