Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts (GSEMA) delivered more than 24,600 packages of donated Girl Scout Cookies to military personnel at their annual Cookies for a Cause event at Hanscom Air Force Base, Mass. on Saturday, April 27. Dozens of Girl Scout troops and their families attended the event to hand-deliver cookies; meet and thank military personnel; and create cards to accompany cookie care packages being sent overseas.
The cookie donation event was made possible through Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts' Cookies for a Cause initiative. As part of the annual cookie program, which concluded March 2, Girl Scouts accepted donations from customers who chose to have cookies donated to the military, food pantries and local charities. In 2019, Girl Scouts in eastern Massachusetts delivered more than triple the cookie donations than the total collected for Cookies for a Cause just two years ago.
“The Girl Scout Cookie Program is the largest girl-led entrepreneurial program in the world, teaching girls essential life skills while they work to fund their next adventures, such as camping, STEM workshops, travel, and community service projects,” says Barbara Fortier, chief operations officer at Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts. “Cookies for a Cause gives girls a very personal way to say thank you to our military for their dedicated service.”
Cookies for a Cause also partners with several other military and veteran organizations, including New England Center for Homeless Vets; Project New Hope; Helping Our Troops; USO New England; Operation Troop Support; Operation American Soldier; and Carepacks.
