WOBURN - Woburn Athletic Director Jim Duran is expected to make a visit before the School Committee tonight as its holds its first meeting of the new year.
Since it is the first meeting, it will open with the Organizational Meeting of the Woburn School Committee on Monday, January 7 in the Conference Room at the Joyce Middle School at 55 Locust Street at 7 p.m.
The selection of a new chairman is expected with School Committee member Michael Mulrenan currently holding the seat.
Duran is coming before the board after School Committee member Dr. John Wells said he sought an update on the scheduling issue associated with the Middlesex League winter sports.
Dr. Wells was told the matter had been resolved, but he still said he would like an explanation as to what the final decision was and why.
At the start of the season, a parent threatened to file suit claiming that the early girls games (both in hockey and basketball) followed by the later boys game was unfair to the girls who should get equal opportunity for the late games.
The league voted to go back to the old format of playing on separate sites with JV games often held before the varsity team, especially in basketball.
There were some complaints to the change away from the boys/girls games especially by Woburn girls basketball Coach Steve Sullivan and players noting that format helps the girls to draw more of a crowd to their games.
The full agenda is as follows:
I. Roll Call
II. Selection of chairman
III. Informational items from the superintendent.
A. Plans for the Reeves principal
B. Revised Guidelines for Cafeteria Food
C. Change in Middlesex League Basketball Schedule
