STONEHAM, MA - The Stoneham Memorial Day Parade Committee is in need of Parade Day volunteers to help with the parade line up and other tasks. All Veterans are invited to join in the line of march. Uniforms are not required. Civilian clothes which respect the dignity of the occasion (dark slack, white dress shirt, and hat that identifies your branch of the service or veterans organization are appropriate.) Transportation will be provided for those who wish to participate, but feel they are not capable of marching along. If you will need transportation, please contact the Parade committee in advance, so provision can be made.

Walking Sticks available to Veterans and Active Military Personnel in Stoneham
On Monday, May 26, 2014, in conjunction with the Stoneham Memorial Day Parade, to recognize our veterans and active military personnel, maple walking sticks will be provided to any veterans or active military personnel who participate. Distribution of walking sticks is intended to encourage more veterans and active military personnel to participate in our Memorial Day event. Veterans and active military personnel may walk in units, while those who need to ride may board our Veterans Float. If you plan to ride on the float, please contact the committee prior to the parade, with your needs.
The walking sticks are FREE to those recipients who have served or currently serve in our military. Recipients need to bring proof of ID and their DD-214, or military ID, or any other proof of military service to Washington Street (near Elm Street), in Stoneham between 8:00 am and 9:00 am on parade day. Walking sticks will be distributed, as long as the supplies last. Special patriotic stickers with the current year will be provided for placement on the stick, to show participation. Each year, stickers will be provided to add to your walking stick, showing participation.
The parade route is as follows: Departs Elm Street at 10:00am, traveling down Main Street to Montvale Ave, where it stops for a brief ceremony in the Veterans Circle of Lindenwood Cemetery. The Parade continues back up Montvale Ave to Main Street towards Stoneham Center, then onto Central Street where it ends at Town Hall. A final ceremony at the Town Hall takes place following the parade.
