STONEHAM – The Stoneham Police Dept. on Wednesday arrested Taylor A. Goulding, 19, of Stoneham, in connection with a string of recent armed robberies occurring in Stoneham and neighboring communities including Woburn.
Beginning on Oct. 30, 2012 through Nov. 7, 2012, two convenience stores and a tanning salon in Stoneham were robbed at gunpoint by a suspect described as a white male, wearing black ski mask, black sweatshirt, black pants, black gloves, black and white sneakers, and brandishing a black handgun.
During this time, additional armed robberies occurred in Woburn, Winchester, Melrose and Reading by a suspect whose clothing and handgun description matched that of the suspect in the Stoneham robberies. While investigating these seven robberies, detectives were able to develop a description of a vehicle which may have been involved in the crime. This potential suspect vehicle information was distributed to area police departments.
On Nov. 17, a Woburn police officer observed a vehicle that matched the description of the suspect vehicle. Upon checking the interior of the unoccupied vehicle, the officer observed clothing that appeared similar to those worn by the suspect in the robberies. The vehicle was registered to Taylor Goulding. Stoneham Police detectives, working in conjunction with detectives from the Wakefield Police, Woburn Police, Reading Police, Melrose Police and FBI Robbery Task force began to focus their investigation onto Mr. Goulding. Significant resources from these cooperating agencies were brought together during the subsequent two week investigation and surveillance of Mr. Goulding.
On November 28, Stoneham Police detectives, assisted by Wakefield, Woburn and Reading detectives, conducted a motor vehicle stop of Mr. Goulding’s Toyota Corolla on Maple Street, Stoneham. While speaking with detectives, Mr. Goulding agreed to come to the Stoneham Police station for an interview. Mr. Goulding’s vehicle was towed from the scene for motor vehicle violations. During an inventory of the Toyota, a black replica style handgun and similar clothing used in the robberies were discovered.
Following a thorough investigation, Mr. Goulding was arrested and charged with two counts of armed robbery while being masked and one count of attempted armed robbery while being masked for the three incidents that occurred in Stoneham on October 30, November 1, and November 11. Mr. Goulding was held overnight on $20,000 bail will be arraigned today in Woburn District Court.
