TEWKSBURY — This Mon­day, May 27, is Memorial Day. In celebration, the Town of Tewksbury has two major events planned.

The first event of the day will be a Memorial Day Cere­mony held at noon at the Tewksbury Cemetery, located at 172 East St.

The annual Memorial Day Parade will be held by the Friends of the Tewksbury Patriotic Activities Commit­tee after the conclusion of the ceremony at the cemetery. The parade will begin at 1 p.m., beginning at the Ryan School and concluding at Brook’s Plaza, next the Mac’s Dairy Farm.

Participants in the parade this year include several lo­cal organizations, town officials, and local businesses. Notable student organizations that are participating include the Tewksbury/Me­thuen Red Rangers Hockey Champs, Tewksbury High School Cheerleaders, and the Tewksbury High School Band. Other notable participants include the Tewksbury Po­lice Department, the Tewks­bury Fire Department, the Tewks­bury Lion’s Club, Tewks­bury’s Boy Scouts, Tewks­bury’s Girl Scouts, Sanai Joe’s Clown Unit, Wamesit Lanes, Maho­ney’s Garden Cen­ter, the Bil­lerica Minute Men, VFW Post 6184, and the WWII Half Track among several others.

As the parade marches on during the afternoon, there will be road closures along the parade route. Pleasant Street will be closed going both directions for parade march­ers to assemble be­tween the hours of 12 - 5 p.m. Main Street from Marshall Street to Livingston Street, as well as all side streets in that vicinity, will be closed be­tween the hours of 11:45 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Detours will be in place in both directions of Main Street during this time. The detour for Main Street heading northbound towards Lowell from the Wilmington line will be: Livingston Street to East Street to Main Street. The detour for Main Street heading southbound towards Wil­mington from the Lowell line will be: Marshall Street to Whipple Road to Shawsheen Street to Main Street.
