WILMINGTON - The town continues to seek answers regarding ice rink access for residents, especially young ones.
Town Manager Jeffrey Hull stated that he has exchanged emails with the rink’s new owners, and that he may be having an email with them sometime this week.
Members of the Board of Selectmen had previously suggested the formation of a committee of stakeholders and town officials to look into the issue.
Selectman Michael McCoy suggested that the committee have representatives from figure skating, youth hockey, and the high school athletic department. He said that it was important that children in town have access to a skating facility.
“The deserve it,” he said.
McCoy also volunteered to serve on the committee.
Selectman Greg Bendel added that he thought it was important that the board “…get the ball rolling as soon as possible.”
“We recognize how important this is and we want to have all the important stakeholders there,” added Bendel.
Hull stated that he will reach out to the athletic department, youth hockey, and skating clubs. He also suggested that the new finance director be included, as finances will be a major limiting issue in the discussions. He stated that will have a slate of recommended individuals in time for the next board meeting.
